Coffee Love.

There you are, just about to start your morning in the very best way possible. What do you do? Well, you make a fresh cup of coffee of course, right? Sometimes it seems that the world is revolving around one thing, and that is coffee. I sometimes wonder where the world would be without coffee, and I must say it’s quite hard to predict. The fact is that a lot of people can’t even begin their day before they have at least one cup of coffee. It’s like a drug,  and they need the caffeine in order to be able to start up their brains. I am not sure how I could make it through my day without my daily fresh brewed cup of coffee. Many people would strongly agree with me! Thank God for coffee!! :)

Healthy Sweeteners For Your Coffee

I have gone through phases with the way I like my coffee. At first I use to use Sugar Free Vanilla Creamer with two Splendas. Then my mom introduced me to an organic sweetener called AGAVE. It tastes like pure sugar. It comes in a liquid form. Agave can be bought in many flavors, a few that I have tried and enjoyed are Original, Hazelnut, Blueberry, Irish Cream, Peppermint and Red Velvet. They all blend very well with any kind of coffee. Lately I have switched from using the sugar free vanilla creamer to using heavy whipping cream as my creamer. It is a healthier choice and I personally think it makes my coffee richer and creamier. I LOVE COFFEE!!!

My Personal Experience with Coffee

I have grown up with coffee being in my life on a daily basis. It started when my nana and papa babysat me from birth till about four years old. My nana and papa are from Sicily, Italy and always had Italian’s finest coffee in mass quantities. Growing up with them is one of my favorite childhood memories. Every morning when I would wake up, I would be handed a bottle or sippy cup full of what they and I called “coffee milk”. My nana was the absolute best at making this contraption. The secret recipe was 50% coffee, 45% milk with two spoonfuls’ of sugar.  I wish my nana was still around to make me this delightful beverage. I believe growing up with having coffee inside my bottle is what sparked my love and addiction for coffee. I will hopefully make my kids and grandkids this drink!

Thanks Nana Ricci, I love and miss you soo much J R.I.P

Coffee in the 21st Century

Today, coffee is a giant global industry employing more than 20 million people. This commodity ranks second only to petroleum in terms of dollars traded worldwide. With over 400 billion cups consumed every year, coffee is the world's most popular beverage. If you can imagine, in Brazil alone, over 5 million people are employed in the cultivation and harvesting of over 3 billion coffee plants. Sales of specialty coffees in the United States have reached the multi billion-dollar level, and are increasing significantly on an annual basis.

Coffee's Journey Around The World

Coffee was first discovered in Eastern Africa in an area we know today as Ethiopia. A popular legend refers to a goat herder by the name of Kaldi, who observed his goats acting unusually frisky after eating berries from a bush. Curious about this phenomenon, Kaldi tried eating the berries himself. He found that these berries gave him a renewed energy. The news of this energy laden fruit quickly spread throughout the region.
Hearing about this amazing fruit, Monks dried the berries so that they could be transported to distant monasteries. They reconstituted these berries in water, ate the fruit, and drank the liquid to provide stimulation for a more awakened time for prayer.
